Everything Is Wonderful – Family Values Book Review

In one chapter she rants about self-centeredness in people yet she is always talking about pro-American. When’s the last time you heard commentary in other countries about pro-Canadians, pro-French, or pro-Japanese?

They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers. What Palin adds is some description of the destruction to people and country caused when we forget the truth of those old verities. People who want to believe in quick fixes, who hate the idea of competition and believe that we can all just get along if only we hold hands and sing Kumbaya, are not going to like this book. Cheap and facile “patriotism,” replete with flag-waving, combined with fundamentalist religion….is this America’s near-future? This is a book to carry in your heart — or at least your pants.

If this book truly reflects her beliefs, it will get her elected as our next President. The Martin Luther King quotes are in the perfect context. Robert Eugene Simmons writes, “The brutal reality of America is that an aristocracy has developed in Washington against the wishes of the founders of this country. The Republicans Party “insiders” are just as deep in the corruption and aristocratic thinking as the liberal elites.

Sarah Palin lives an interesting life. It is refreshing to share her interests and activities in Alaska. I think Obama should read this book, he might learn that his idea for America won’t work. America is a great country where anyone can succeed if they try hard enough. In both message and style it is nearly the polar opposite of the “Dreams” book that Bill Ayers wrote for Obama. In that more literary (and to be fair well written) book the messages of social justice and victim-hood were artfully woven into a Homeric tale that (intentionally) sacrificed clarity for literary style. He did exactly what he said he would do. Politicians help themselves and their corporate donors, we pay for it. The book seems to be another whine-fest. She can’t even get out of the introduction without casting negative aspersions on her grandson’s father.

How Ms Palin or her ghost writer could ignore all of this is a bad sign for the quality of the rest of the book which I will not waste my time reading. Governor Palin has done something which few politicians dare to do these days: discuss what makes America an exceptional nation.

Is it because she is more attractive than most movie stars? If you are buying this book because you think it was actually signed by Sarah Palin – STOP! Well worth getting. Basically, Sarah Palin seems to be the Stephanie Meyer of politics–very popular, but ultimately not a contender for the highest quality (with apologies to Meyer, who has only published one book I haven’t read, and can improve).

Sarah Palin’s America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag does just that. The writer’s voice is warm and welcoming.

For all our tanks and battleships we have no monopoly on courage. Windscreen Replacement Cost.

Good Item – Problems In Public Education Book Critique

Every teacher has a unique set of students every year sometimes with more challenges in some classes.

She finds, among other things, that heavy emphasis on reading and math tests has led to less time spent on social studies, phys ed, science and many other subjects. She finds that there are more charter schools that fall short of public schools performance standardized tests than perform better.

As she always has, Dr Ravitch believes in high standards, a rigorous curriculum, treating teachers with respect and never straying from the truth – which is why she has become critical of testing programs that have fostered a culture of lies and exaggeration. And she backs up her positions – old and new – with convincing data and perceptive analysis.

In addition to strong and intact traditional families we need standards: NATIONAL STANDARDS that have meat to them in all disciplines. We need to be free to teach that curriculum. We were not in control of our own destiny – we no longer had the ability to enact our own reforms for our own unique school population. Too much change was mandated at one time.

Here are the ultra of the ultra rich, dispensing billions with profligate abandon, dominating educational practice through ill-advised projects, but with nary a side glance at the deeper issues involved in educating our children. On these broader issues of educational philosophy, Ravitch has all the right instincts (see her last chapter), but she lacks depth. I transferred to the high school about that time. All we did was dance to the state department of education’s interpretation of NCLB – many false starts, much wasted time.

Small schools are no solution; they may lack many of the resources of larger schools, and some small-school initiatives have proven disastrous. In my writings, I have consistently warned that, in education, there are no shortcuts, no utopias, and no silver bullets. This is ironic considering that philanthropists are able to write these checks because of tax legislation that was intended to support social welfare. Private donations are essentially public dollars. I was pleased to have this book assigned to read in a Social Justice Educators book group I belong too. I had it in the back of my “shelf” to read.

We know how to identify the schools that are not doing well. The remedies for each of those schools need to be appropriate for each particular school. Knowing that she is monitoring the world of American education should be a source of peace of mind for anyone who, in any capacity and from any angle, is part of it. Ravitch comment from Ric Loya (a former teacher and a former Mayor) for Amazon I bet my Mrs Custer left Ms Ratliff in the dust! First, let me preface my review by disclosing that I am undeniably a member of the reform movement that Dr Ravitch systematically critiques in her book. My friends in the education sector are primarily employed by organizations like Teach For America, various charter schools and charter management organizations, and in “reform-minded” districts like New York City.

More ominously, it led to such scandals as the New York State Education Department lowering the “cut scores” that define the line between passing and failing. Ravitch suggests that the proper roles of the states and federal government have been reversed under NCLB. Before we go any further with Race to the Top, please read this book. A broad, liberal arts curriculum is what’s truly needed, but apparently it is nowhere to be found; it is too controversial in these contentious times.

I recently discovered that teachers can be called to testify in custody hearing. REPLACEMENT WINDOW RATINGS.

Fantastic Option For Everybody – Future Of Public Education Book Review

Teachers are the low men on the totem pole in education, but always pointed to as the main problem in education. Diane Ravitch is well aware of this system, and knows the steps best needed to reach our highest levels of quality education.

But like Ravitch I know that Charters (“school choice”) by themselves are no answer to our societal and educational problem. And Ravitch documents the incompetence, theft and corruption associated with Charter schools such as The California Charter Academy which declared bankruptcy in 2004 stranding over 6000 students in more than 60 “storefront” schools.

Students are not machines; they are human beings whose educational experiences are often overpowered by circumstances beyond their or the teacher’s control. The “output” that comes with standardized testing does not always truly reflect the knowledge mastered in a given year, and evaluating schools solely on these test results does not truly reflect the quality of the teaching/learning at a given school.

The founder of the organization – not an educator but a former insurance salesman – may have taken the State of California for over $100,000,000. That is no way to run a navy.

I fear that if we continue down the current road, my students will not have access to a diverse, inspiring, rigorous education – they will be put in a compliance testing camp and will just drop out, rather than graduate. This would be a tragedy. In other words, teachers unions should not be challenged, bureaucracy should not be challenged, poor schools should be closed only as a ‘last resort’. She has an incrementalist view of how education reform should proceed, with entrenched interests like teachers unions and administrative bureaucracy being worked with, rather than worked against. Most of these foundations seek business people who lack experience in the education field to lead their programs and charter schools. Like many politicians, these groups also define student achievement very narrowly by looking at standardized test scores. Perhaps most impressive, though, is the portion of the book in which Ravitch takes on those she dubs “The Billionaire Boys’ Club”. She argues that organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Broad Foundation sometimes do more harm than good for the schools they are attempting to save.

I attest to that. I reiterate – not one false note, not one exaggerated statement is in this book. In short, Ravitch has crafted a book that serves as an excellent starting point for those delving deeper into the intricacies of education policy. For more reviews and a summary of Ravitch’s main points, find us at Hand of Reason.

All professors I have talked to, from very conservative to very liberal, agree this problem has grown a lot in recent years. This is not surprising considering the history of philanthropy and education from Rosenwald to Rockefeller, the national education agenda has always been in the palms of foundations. Ravitch ultimately argues that the individuals running foundations are having the greatest impact on the reforms that are enacted. She offers an insider view of an external threat. Money and clout are enabling billionaire business persons to destroy a private community controlled institution.

Its subject matter, history and civics, literature and the arts, has been all but lost in the frenzy of test preparation that has taken over classrooms everywhere in the country. Yes, it’s the curriculum, stupid. We hope that they will be kind and compassionate in their dealings with others. We want them to understand our nation and our world and the challenges we face.

We both became teachers for the LAUSD and from what we have been told by numerous kids who had our classes – we did a great job of teaching. Pool Landscaping Pictures.

Remarkable Product – All About Family Critique

If you are an independent or intelligent thinker, or a woman, definitely spend an afternoon with this book. Previously neutral, I walked away with a favorable impression, and urge other “soccer and hockey moms” to take an interest in righting the wrongs of our federal and state government. But Sarah, while probably correct that it will not be made again, is totally wrong as to why. She and Todd would probably be the only ones in the theater willing to pony up $20 to watch a movie about Washington and boy scouts. I would also be interested in actually reading this at some point, instead of listening to it. I was going to read the book but I got it off Audible.

I urge you to read this book and reach your own conclusions. Whatever you conclude about Ms Palin after reading it, at a minimum you’ll find this book interesting, thought-provoking rather than fluffy; personal rather than superficial.

It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, as least as it has been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted it the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you.

Our voices have finally been heard by other Americans instead of the Representatives and elected officials. Sarah is acknowledging and recording for history the genuine movement of everyday Americans and her realization of this movement as it evolved. Discover why women were given the right to vote in Wyoming and Territorial Alaska many years before women gained these rights throughout America. Sarah Palin addresses how Christians are losing their rights to religious expression. Don’t let other people make your mind up for you, use your agency, read the book and decide for yourself. This review is written specifically for the fair-minded Palin-curious, the politically middle-of-the road, and/or the politically independent.

There were bright and shiny faces of regular Americans doing their part to save the country from all the angry beltway insiders and their paid anti-tea party protesters. She goes on to use various tea party signs as a basis to highlight the facets of the tea party agenda.

Sarah Palin tells it like it is using common sense, the kind of stuff you can’t learn at Yale. I’m 99% certain that this was ghost-written (I didn’t see the word “repudiate” anywhere) by someone who has never actually studied history or political science. Howling errors and insane ideological statements abound; I don’t even recommend reading this for a laugh.

I’m proud of her for rejecting the endorsement of NAMBLA, even after Dick Cheney insisted that they were the spokesmen for “the REAL American family” and her proud insistence that Reagan’s divorce “never mattered to Jesus” is brave. The “lame stream media” is likely to make fun of Sarah for this book, pointing out that she has the brains of an agitated parrot.

Liberal media bias against Palin becomes evident as you read this and “Going Rogue.” It’s time we stopped believing what the media reports about people, and make up our own minds. I don’t know how we Americans came to this dark place but I see the writing on the wall; Ms Palin is a winner – she is the America of tomorrow. This is how great empires fall; why should America be any different.

Well I believe my title says it all. TOPSOIL PRICES.

Dan Brown and Major Furore

Whether you have read any of the Dan Brown books or not, you may have heard the exaggeration regarding this top selling writer. And the ballyhoo is not unvaryingly good. In reality some of the comments from the Dan Brown critics can be downright hateful on occasion.

But don’t let that stop you!

Here’s my point.

Yes, Dan Brown wrote 2 arguable books. The ‘da Vinci Code ‘ and ‘Angels and Demons’. These 2 books alone have brought him much notoriety. He ruffled the feathers of many Christians in the world with his slanted perspectives of some church doctrine.

But he is a fiction writer! He is allowed to raise questions. He is allowed to pose different ideas and thoughts.

With this stirring up of the pot, he has created something miles better than simply a best-selling novel. He has made free furore. With this debate comes the sale of books.

Millions and millions of book sales.

But wait, he has written other books that don’t have anything to do with the church, or the Christian faith, or deities of any sort.

Actually he has 3 other books out that in my judgment are fantastically great books. These other Dan Brown books have flown under the radar until recently when the latest book, ‘The Lost Symbol ‘, was made into a production.

That makes 3 out of 5 Dan Brown novels to be made into films. Not so bad considering many authors never gain this type of success over a whole career of writing.

So , regardless of what you’ve heard or what your private viewpoints are of the Dan Brown books, there’s one thing you cannot dispute. He is a wildly successful author. He sells a shipload of these books too.

Debate has become his friend when it comes to marketing these fast reading books. If you haven’t read any of his books, pick one up today and see what everyone seems to be talking about!
